Overview

Diclofop is a synthetic small molecule herbicide belonging to the aryloxyphenoxypropionic acid class. It acts as a selective post-emergence herbicide primarily used for controlling grass weeds in cereal crops such as wheat and barley. Diclofop functions by inhibiting the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), which is essential for fatty acid biosynthesis in plants. This inhibition disrupts lipid synthesis and leads to plant death. Diclofop is not approved for pharmaceutical use in humans or animals and has no known therapeutic indications[3][5]. It is considered hazardous upon exposure and should be handled with caution due to potential health risks including skin/eye irritation and neurotoxicity at high doses[1].
