Dictamnine is a natural furoquinoline alkaloid primarily isolated from the root bark of *Dictamnus dasycarpus* (Cortex Dictamni). It is being investigated for its potent anti-inflammatory and anti-asthmatic properties. The compound's mechanism of action involves the modulation of the **TGF-β/Smad2/3 signaling pathway**, which is a critical driver of airway remodeling and subepithelial fibrosis in chronic respiratory diseases. Preclinical studies in murine models of asthma have demonstrated that dictamnine significantly reduces airway hyperresponsiveness, suppresses the production of Th2 cytokines and mucin 5AC, and mitigates inflammatory cell infiltration. Furthermore, it helps maintain bronchial epithelial integrity by upregulating tight junction proteins such as ZO-1 and inhibiting the phosphorylation of Smad2/3.
