Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Spasmoril is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing the antispasmodic agent dicyclomine (also known as dicycloverine) and the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac. Developed by Navil Laboratories, it is primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of abdominal pain, cramps, bloating, and spasms associated with functional gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Dicyclomine acts as an antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (M1, M2, and M3) on smooth muscle cells in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby preventing acetylcholine-induced muscle contractions and spasms. Diclofenac works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, which blocks the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and alleviates pain and inflammation. Spasmoril is typically administered orally as a tablet.
