Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dienogenance is an approved combined oral contraceptive (film-coated tablet) developed and manufactured by Mibe Arzneimittel. It is a generic version of Valette, containing a fixed-dose combination of the progestogen dienogest (2.0 mg) and the estrogen ethinylestradiol (0.03 mg). Dienogenance is indicated for female contraception and the treatment of moderate acne in women who have no contraindications to oral contraceptives and in whom suitable topical or antibiotic treatments have failed. Dienogest acts as an agonist at the progesterone receptor and an antagonist at the androgen receptor, providing antiandrogenic activity that helps improve acne symptoms. Ethinylestradiol acts as an agonist at estrogen receptors, contributing to the inhibition of ovulation and alteration of cervical mucus to prevent pregnancy.
