Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dienogest + ethinyl estradiol is a **fixed-dose combined oral contraceptive** containing the antiandrogenic progestin dienogest and the synthetic estrogen ethinyl estradiol. Common products contain dienogest 2 mg plus ethinyl estradiol 0.03 mg in oral tablets. The combination suppresses hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian signaling and ovulation, thickens cervical mucus, and produces endometrial changes that reduce the likelihood of fertilization and implantation. It is marketed for contraception and, in some jurisdictions, for moderate acne vulgaris in women who choose oral contraception. Bayer developed and marketed the reference product Valette; generic and regional products include Oralia from IFA Celtics.
