diethazine

Diethazine is a phenothiazine derivative that was historically utilized as an antiparkinsonian agent. Unlike many other phenothiazines that primarily act as antipsychotics through dopamine receptor antagonism, diethazine exhibits potent anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) and antihistaminic properties. Developed by Rhône-Poulenc, it was one of the first synthetic compounds used to treat the tremors and rigidity associated with Parkinson's disease and drug-induced extrapyramidal syndromes. While it also possesses sedative and local anesthetic activities, its clinical use has been largely superseded by more effective and better-tolerated therapies such as levodopa and newer anticholinergic agents.
