Overview

Diethyltryptamine (DET) is a synthetic psychedelic compound belonging to the tryptamine class, structurally related to DMT (N,N-dimethyltryptamine). Unlike DMT, DET is orally active without the need for monoamine oxidase inhibitors due to its ethyl substitutions, which prevent rapid metabolic degradation. DET acts primarily as an agonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptor, producing hallucinogenic and psychedelic effects similar to other classic serotonergic psychedelics. Its effects typically last 2–4 hours when taken orally. DET has been studied in clinical settings for its psychoactive properties but has no currently accepted medical use and is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance in the United States[1][2][3][6].
