Dietzia C79793-74 is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of the bacterial strain *Dietzia natronolimnaea* C79793-74. It is being developed by the Centre for Digestive Diseases, led by Dr. Thomas Borody, as a potential treatment for moderate to severe Crohn's disease. The therapeutic rationale is based on the "MAP hypothesis," which suggests that *Mycobacterium avium* subspecies *paratuberculosis* (MAP) plays a causative role in Crohn's disease. Dietzia C79793-74 acts by inhibiting or outcompeting MAP, a mechanism first observed in the treatment of Johne's disease in cattle. In human clinical evaluation, it has been studied in Phase 1/2 open-label trials to assess safety, tolerability, and clinical response.
