difenpiramide

Difenpiramide is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) belonging to the acetic acid derivatives class. It is a monocarboxylic acid amide formed by the condensation of biphenyl-4-ylacetic acid and 2-aminopyridine. Difenpiramide has been used primarily for the treatment of musculoskeletal and joint disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Its pharmacological actions include anti-inflammatory, analgesic (non-narcotic), antipyretic, and uricosuric effects. The drug acts mainly by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX), thereby blocking prostaglandin synthesis involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. Unlike many NSAIDs, difenpiramide does not significantly affect platelet aggregation or blood clotting.
