diflunisal

Diflunisal is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a salicylic acid derivative developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme in 1971. It is used to treat mild to moderate pain, inflammation, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Diflunisal works primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to decreased synthesis of prostaglandins—key mediators of pain and inflammation. It possesses analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties but is not typically used for fever reduction.
