Overview
Difluocortolone pivalate is a synthetic corticosteroid of the glucocorticoid class, used primarily as a topical anti-inflammatory and antipruritic agent for the treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. It acts by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, inducing lipocortins that inhibit phospholipase A2 and thus block arachidonic acid release. This leads to reduced synthesis of inflammatory mediators. Additionally, it modulates gene expression in target cells by stimulating anti-inflammatory genes and suppressing proinflammatory ones. The drug is available in various topical formulations including creams, ointments, and suppositories for dermatological or proctological use[1][2][6][8].
