Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Digene Total is an oral branded formulation of the proton pump inhibitor pantoprazole, marketed for the management of acid‑related gastrointestinal disorders including peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), reflux esophagitis, and associated symptoms such as acidity, heartburn, acid reflux, and pain on swallowing. It contains pantoprazole 40 mg in a gastro‑resistant tablet, which selectively and irreversibly inhibits the gastric parietal cell H+/K+-ATPase (“proton pump”), thereby suppressing basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion and promoting healing of gastric and duodenal ulcers and esophageal lesions. The product is positioned primarily for short‑ and medium‑term control of acid hypersecretion and for ulcers related to chronic NSAID use, with a safety profile typical of PPIs (headache, gastrointestinal disturbances, and long‑term risks such as hypomagnesemia and increased fracture or infection risk).
