Overview

Digitalis grandiflora extract is a botanical extract derived from the aerial parts and roots of the *Digitalis grandiflora* Miller plant, commonly known as yellow foxglove. The extract contains a variety of bioactive secondary metabolites, most notably cardiac glycosides (cardenolides), which are known to inhibit the sodium-potassium pump (Na+/K+-ATPase). Research conducted at Hacettepe University has demonstrated that the extract possesses potent and selective cytotoxic activity against several human cancer cell lines, including HeLa (cervical cancer), HepG2 (hepatocellular carcinoma), and HEp-2 (laryngeal cancer). Notably, the extract shows significantly lower toxicity toward noncancerous cell lines, such as 3Y1 rat fibroblasts, suggesting potential for development as a targeted antineoplastic agent with a favorable therapeutic index.
