Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine, an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), and tafenoquine, an 8-aminoquinoline. This combination is used for the radical cure of Plasmodium vivax malaria, targeting both the blood-stage parasites (through dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine) and the hypnozoite forms that cause relapse (through tafenoquine). Clinical studies have shown that while this combination is statistically superior to dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine alone in preventing relapse, the clinical benefit is not as meaningful as expected compared to other combinations like tafenoquine plus chloroquine.
