Overview

Dihydrocurcuphenol is a sesquiterpene compound and a derivative of (+)-curcuphenol, originally isolated from the Indonesian marine sponge *Myrmekioderma sp.* found in North Sulawesi. It has demonstrated significant cytotoxic activity against A549 human lung cancer cells and HeLa cervical cancer cells, with its mechanism of action linked to the induction of apoptosis as evidenced by annexin V and PI staining. Additionally, dihydrocurcuphenol exhibits potent antiviral properties against Dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2), showing lower EC50 values compared to its parent compound. It is currently in the early discovery and preclinical stages of research for its potential as an antineoplastic and antiviral agent.
