Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dihydroergocryptine (sold under brand names such as Almirid, Cripar, and Almirid-Cripar) is a hydrogenated ergot alkaloid that acts as a potent dopamine receptor agonist. Developed by Polichem (an Almirall company), it is primarily approved for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, both as a monotherapy in early stages and as an adjunct to levodopa in advanced stages. Dihydroergocryptine primarily targets the dopamine D2 receptor with high affinity, while also acting as a partial agonist at D1 and D3 receptors, and an antagonist at alpha-1 and alpha-2 adrenergic receptors. Beyond Parkinson's disease, it has been utilized for migraine prophylaxis, hyperprolactinemia, and age-related cognitive decline or dementia.
