Dihydroglycitein is a naturally occurring isoflavonoid and a key gut microbial metabolite of glycitein, a major soy isoflavone. It belongs to the class of phytoestrogens and exhibits estrogenic activity by binding to both estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) and estrogen receptor beta (ERβ). Dihydroglycitein shows a higher binding affinity and potency for ERβ compared to ERα, acting as a partial agonist or antagonist on ERβ and an agonist on ERα. It is found in soy-derived products and is produced in the human intestine via the bacterial reduction of glycitein. Dihydroglycitein has been studied for its potential health benefits, including cardiovascular protection, bone health maintenance, and anti-inflammatory effects, as part of the broader pharmacological profile of soy isoflavones.
