Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Entamizole DS is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing diloxanide furoate (500 mg) and metronidazole (400 mg), manufactured by Abbott Laboratories (Pakistan) Ltd. It is indicated for the treatment of intestinal and systemic amoebic infections, including acute and chronic intestinal amoebiasis caused by *Entamoeba histolytica*, amoebic liver abscess, giardiasis (caused by *Giardia lamblia*), and other protozoal or bacterial gastrointestinal infections. Diloxanide furoate acts as a luminal amoebicide that targets the cyst stage of the parasite in the intestinal lumen, while metronidazole is a tissue amoebicide that targets the invasive trophozoite forms. Together, they provide a complementary dual-action mechanism that covers the full lifecycle of the amoebic infection.
