diluent

This diluent is an inactive vehicle solution used as a placebo control in clinical research conducted by Universitaire Ziekenhuizen KU Leuven. It was specifically utilized in a Phase 4 clinical trial (NCT02347306) designed to investigate the electrophysiological mechanisms of capsaicin nasal spray in patients with idiopathic rhinitis. In this study, the diluent served as the negative control to be compared against capsaicin, a TRPV1 agonist. The trial aimed to measure mucosal potentials and functional changes in the nasal mucosa to better understand how capsaicin treatment alleviates symptoms of non-allergic, non-infectious rhinitis. As a placebo, the diluent contains no active pharmaceutical ingredients and is intended to isolate the therapeutic effects of the active drug from the physical act of administration and the vehicle itself.
