Overview
Dilute hydrochloric acid is an aqueous solution containing approximately 9.5% to 10.5% w/w of hydrochloric acid (HCl). It is clinically used as a gastric acidifier to treat achlorhydria and hypochlorhydria, conditions characterized by a deficiency of stomach acid. By increasing gastric acidity, it helps restore normal stomach pH, which in turn activates pepsinogen into pepsin to facilitate protein digestion and enhances the absorption of essential nutrients like iron. Additionally, it is widely utilized as an acidifying agent and pH adjuster in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
