Overview

Dimetofrine is a synthetic sympathomimetic amine structurally related to phenylephrine. It acts primarily as a cardiac stimulant and vasopressor by directly stimulating beta-adrenergic receptor in the heart and blood vessels. This leads to increased cardiac output and elevated blood pressure. Dimetofrine has been used in the management of hypotension (low blood pressure), particularly orthostatic hypotension and shock states. Its mechanism of action involves direct agonism at beta-adrenergic receptor, resulting in positive inotropic (increased force of contraction) and chronotropic (increased heart rate) effects on the myocardium.
