Overview

Dimyrisplatin is an experimental **difattyacid platinum compound** (a lipid-soluble platinum complex), structurally designed to facilitate encapsulation in oil-core nanoemulsions for targeted delivery. It belongs to a new class of "difattyacid platins," specifically engineered to overcome resistance mechanisms to traditional platinum drugs by enhancing cellular uptake via selective binding to the **folate receptor alpha** (FR-α), which is often overexpressed in several types of cancers including ovarian cancer. Unlike classic platinum anti-cancer agents such as cisplatin, dimyrisplatin features long fatty acid chains (myristoyl), which allow the compound to be stably loaded into nanoemulsions, increase circulation time in vivo, and bypass certain platinum-resistance mechanisms. In vitro studies show that nanoemulsions loaded with dimyrisplatin (notably the NMI-350 formulation) are highly potent, particularly against platinum-resistant cancer cell lines, and exhibit similar or superior pharmacokinetics to cisplatin[5][7].
