Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DIO-902 is a sustained-release oral formulation of levothyroxine (T4) that was developed by DiObex for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and dyslipidemia. Levothyroxine is a synthetic version of the endogenous thyroid hormone thyroxine, which acts as a pro-hormone for the more biologically active triiodothyronine (T3). By utilizing a sustained-release delivery system, DIO-902 was designed to provide steady plasma levels of thyroid hormone, thereby enhancing metabolic rate, improving insulin sensitivity, and promoting lipid oxidation while avoiding the cardiovascular side effects (such as tachycardia) often associated with the peak concentrations of immediate-release thyroid supplements. The drug was primarily investigated as an adjunct therapy to metformin and statins in patients with metabolic disorders.
