Overview

Dioscorea spp. alcoholic extract is a botanical extract derived from the tubers of Jamaican yam species. It is being investigated for its antiproliferative and cytotoxic effects against hormone-sensitive cancers, specifically androgen-insensitive prostate cancer and invasive breast cancer. Research suggests that the extract induces cell death potentially through the modulation of the cell cycle regulatory protein, cyclin D. The extract is also being explored as a component in green nanotechnology for targeted cancer therapy.
