Overview

Diosmin is a naturally occurring flavonoid glycoside found mainly in citrus fruits and used as a venoactive drug to support vascular health. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), hemorrhoids, varicose veins, and venous leg ulcers. Diosmin acts as a phlebotonic and vascular protector by improving lymphatic drainage, increasing venous tone and capillary resistance, reducing capillary permeability, and enhancing microcirculation. Its mechanism of action includes inhibition of noradrenaline metabolism in the venous wall—prolonging smooth muscle contraction—and modulation of lymphatic vessel function. Diosmin also exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, antifibrotic, antibacterial properties in various disease models[2][3][5][6]. It is available over-the-counter in many countries (often as micronized purified flavonoid fraction or MPFF) with a favorable safety profile[4].
