Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dioxaphetyl butyrate is a synthetic opioid analgesic and spasmolytic agent belonging to the diphenylacetic acid derivative class. It is structurally related to other open-chain opioids such as dextropropoxyphene and levacetylmethadol (LAAM). Dioxaphetyl butyrate acts as an agonist at opioid receptors in the central nervous system to produce typical opioid effects including analgesia (pain relief), euphoria, sedation, dependence liability, constipation, dizziness and nausea. It has no accepted medicinal use in the United States and is classified internationally as a controlled substance[1][3][5].
