dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine

Dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine is a synthetic surfactant. It was investigated as a replacement therapy for patients with sepsis-induced Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) who have a deficiency of natural surfactant. The drug was administered in aerosolized form. A clinical trial found no significant effect on 30-day survival, length of stay in the intensive care unit, duration of mechanical ventilation, or physiologic function in this patient population.
