Diperodon is a small molecule local anesthetic belonging to the class of phenylcarbamic acid esters. It acts primarily by blocking sodium channels in nerve cells (specifically sodium channel alpha subunits in the brain), thereby inhibiting nerve impulse transmission and producing local anesthesia[2][5][6]. Its anesthetic effect is achieved through reversible inhibition of these channels, preventing pain signal propagation. Diperodon can be hydrolyzed by serolytic enzymes in blood serum[7][8]. It has been used topically and is available as diperodon hydrochloride. The drug has also served as a structural template for developing new local anesthetics with potentially improved properties[6].
