Overview
Diperoxochloric acid (DPOCL) is a first-in-class small molecule New Chemical Entity (NCE) developed by Centaur Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with CytoTools AG for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. Formulated as a topical solution and marketed under the brand name WOXheal, it possesses a dual mechanism of action: it exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and stimulates fibroblast growth to promote wound healing and closure. DPOCL received regulatory approval from the CDSCO in India in 2019 after successful Phase II and Phase III clinical trials, which demonstrated a 76% complete wound closure rate compared to 57.5% in the control group. It was launched in India in 2020 as a first-in-world treatment for this indication.
