Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is an adsorbed pentavalent combination vaccine developed by Beijing Minhai Biotechnology (a subsidiary of Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products). It is designed to protect infants and young children against five major infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis (polio), and invasive infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The vaccine combines diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, acellular pertussis antigens (including pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin), inactivated poliovirus types I, II, and III derived from Sabin strains (sIPV), and Haemophilus influenzae type b capsular polysaccharide conjugated to a carrier protein, adsorbed onto an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant. By utilizing Sabin strains for the inactivated polio component, the vaccine offers enhanced biosafety and lower manufacturing costs compared to traditional wild-type Salk strain-based vaccines. It is currently in Phase III clinical development in China.
