This is a combination vaccine that provides immunization against five serious childhood diseases: diphtheria (caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae), tetanus (Clostridium tetani), pertussis or whooping cough (Bordetella pertussis), poliomyelitis (poliovirus types 1-3), and invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. The vaccine contains: - Diphtheria toxoid - Tetanus toxoid - Acellular pertussis antigens - Inactivated poliovirus types 1–3 - Haemophilus influenzae type b polysaccharide conjugated to a carrier protein It works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against these pathogens without causing disease. It is administered intramuscularly as a four-dose series for children aged 6 weeks through 4 years. This combination reduces the number of injections required for full protection[2][4][5][6].
