Overview

Infanrix is a trivalent combination vaccine developed by GSK for active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. It is a non-infectious, sterile vaccine containing diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, and three purified acellular pertussis antigens: pertussis toxoid (PT), filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), and pertactin (69 kiloDalton outer membrane protein). These antigens are adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide, which serves as an adjuvant to enhance the immune response. Infanrix is typically administered as a 5-dose series in infants and children from 6 weeks through 6 years of age (prior to the 7th birthday). It is designed to induce protective antibody levels and immune memory without the reactogenicity associated with older whole-cell pertussis vaccines.
