Overview

Boostrix is a reduced-antigen, acellular pertussis-containing vaccine (Tdap) developed by GSK. It is indicated for booster immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis in individuals aged 10 years and older. The vaccine contains five active antigenic components: diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, and three pertussis antigens (pertussis toxoid, filamentous haemagglutinin, and pertactin). It is formulated with a lower concentration of diphtheria and pertussis antigens compared to pediatric DTaP vaccines (such as Infanrix) to minimize reactogenicity in adolescents and adults while maintaining protective immunogenicity. The vaccine is administered as a single intramuscular injection and is often used as a decennial booster or during pregnancy to provide passive immunity to neonates.
