Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a **6-in-1 combination vaccine** containing **diphtheria toxoid**, **tetanus toxoid**, **whole-cell pertussis vaccine** (killed Bordetella pertussis bacteria), **hepatitis B vaccine** (recombinant HBsAg), **Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine** (typically Hib polysaccharide conjugated to a carrier protein like tetanus toxoid), and **meningococcal A and C vaccine** (polysaccharides from Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A and C, often conjugated). It induces active immunity by stimulating production of protective antibodies against these six pathogens, preventing invasive diseases like diphtheria (respiratory infection), tetanus (lockjaw from Clostridium tetani toxin), pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B (viral liver infection), Hib meningitis/sepsis, and meningococcal A/C disease. Administered intramuscularly to infants as part of routine immunization schedules, it reduces the number of injections needed; whole-cell pertussis component provides robust but more reactogenic immunity compared to acellular versions.
