Overview

Diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, as part of a Diphtheria-Tetanus-acellular Pertussis Component Combined Vaccine (DTacP), is a combination biologic being developed by the Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with the Sichuan Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The vaccine is designed to prevent diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis in healthy children aged 2 months to 6 years. It contains inactivated diphtheria and tetanus toxins (toxoids) along with acellular pertussis antigens, including pertussis toxin (PT), filamentous haemagglutinin (FHA), pertactin (PRN), and fimbriae types 2 and 3. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce protective antibodies and antitoxins that neutralize the toxins and antigens produced by *Corynebacterium diphtheriae*, *Clostridium tetani*, and *Bordetella pertussis*. As of late 2023, the candidate is in Phase I clinical trials (NCT06184542) to evaluate its safety and preliminary immunogenicity.
