Overview

Diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and pertussis, hepatitis B, poliovirus, and Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine (DTPw-HBV-IPV/Hib) is an investigational hexavalent combination vaccine developed by GSK Biologicals. This specific formulation is distinguished by its use of whole-cell pertussis (DTPw) antigens, rather than the acellular pertussis (DTaP) components found in many modern hexavalent vaccines like Infanrix Hexa. The vaccine also contains diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), inactivated poliovirus (IPV) types 1, 2, and 3, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate antigens. It is designed to provide active immunization against six major childhood diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, and Hib-induced infections. Clinical development has focused on its use as a booster dose in toddlers who have previously received primary poliovirus vaccination.
