Overview

The pentavalent DPT-IPV-Hib vaccine, specifically the formulation developed by KM Biologics known as Quinvacta (KMB-202), is a combination vaccine designed for infant immunization. It integrates five components into a single injection: diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, acellular pertussis (aP) antigens, inactivated poliovirus (IPV), and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) capsular polysaccharide conjugated to a carrier protein. A distinguishing feature of the KM Biologics formulation is the use of Sabin-strain inactivated poliovirus (s-IPV), making it the first 5-in-1 vaccine in Japan to utilize this platform. The vaccine is indicated for the prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, and invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. By combining these antigens, the vaccine reduces the total number of injections required in early childhood, potentially improving adherence to vaccination schedules and reducing the burden on healthcare providers and parents.
