Overview

Tetrabik is a quadrivalent combination vaccine developed by Biken (The Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University) for the prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and poliomyelitis. It contains diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, acellular pertussis components (typically pertussis toxoid and filamentous hemagglutinin), and inactivated poliovirus (IPV) derived from Sabin strains (sIPV). Tetrabik is primarily utilized in the Japanese pediatric immunization schedule, often administered as a primary series in infants. It serves as a standard-of-care comparator in clinical trials for newer pentavalent vaccines, such as Gobik (BK1310), which incorporate a Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) component. The use of Sabin strains for the inactivated polio component distinguishes it from many global IPV formulations that utilize Salk strains.
