Overview

The DT-IPV vaccine is a trivalent combination vaccine composed of diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, and inactivated poliovirus (IPV). Developed and administered by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in the Netherlands, it is a core component of the Dutch National Immunization Programme (NIP). The vaccine is typically used as a booster dose for children and adolescents (e.g., at ages 9 and 14) to maintain immunity against diphtheria, tetanus, and poliomyelitis. Notably, this formulation lacks a pertussis component, distinguishing it from the broader DTP-IPV combinations. In clinical research, the RIVM-administered DT-IPV has served as a standard comparator in randomized controlled trials evaluating the immunogenicity and safety of various acellular and whole-cell pertussis vaccine combinations, as well as new IPV components produced using Vero cell cultures.
