Overview

**diphtheria toxoid + tetanus toxoid + acellular pertussis + hepatitis B recombinant + inactivated poliovirus vaccine** is a pentavalent combination vaccine for infants and young children that protects against five serious infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis, and hepatitis B[1][2][3][7]. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to generate protective antibodies against these pathogens. Diphtheria and tetanus components are inactivated (toxoid) bacterial proteins; pertussis is acellular (purified protein subunits); hepatitis B is recombinant (produced via genetic engineering); poliovirus is inactivated (killed virus)[1]. Typically administered as a three-dose series in infants between 6 weeks and 6 years of age, via intramuscular injection[1][2][3]. Primarily indicated for routine pediatric immunization.
