Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination vaccine contains **diphtheria toxoid**, **tetanus toxoid**, **acellular pertussis vaccine**, and **Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine**. It provides active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), and invasive diseases caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b. These antigens stimulate an adaptive immune response by inducing production of antibodies specific to each pathogen. - **Diphtheria toxoid** and **tetanus toxoid** are inactivated toxins that induce antitoxin antibodies. - **Acellular pertussis vaccine** includes purified pertussis proteins that stimulate anti-pertussis immunity. - **Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine** consists of Hib polysaccharide chemically linked to a protein carrier (commonly tetanus toxoid), enabling infants to mount a robust immune response against Hib. Primary indication is prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and Hib infections in infants and young children[3][5][1]. Approved and widely used combination brands include Pentacel (Sanofi Pasteur), Pediacel (Sanofi Pasteur), Infanrix IPV + Hib (GlaxoSmithKline), and Pentaxim (Sanofi Pasteur). TriHIBit (Sanofi Pasteur) has been discontinued[3][5][1].
