Overview

This is a **hexavalent combination vaccine** designed for active immunization in infants and young children against six serious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus (lockjaw), pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, and invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. Each component antigen (diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, acellular pertussis antigens, recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen, inactivated poliovirus types 1/2/3, Hib polysaccharide conjugated to protein) stimulates the immune system to produce specific protective antibodies against the respective pathogens, thereby providing immunity and preventing disease. The combination enables multiple protections with a single injection, improving immunization coverage and compliance. It is approved for use in infants as part of national childhood immunization schedules. The vaccine does not treat these diseases; it is purely preventive.
