Overview
DD-687, marketed under the brand name Squarekids, is a combined vaccine indicated for the prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and poliomyelitis in infants. Developed through a collaboration between Daiichi Sankyo and Sanofi, it integrates Daiichi Sankyo's DTaP components (diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis) with Sanofi's inactivated poliovirus (IPV) component (Salk strains). The vaccine is administered subcutaneously, following standard Japanese immunization practice. Its approval in Japan in 2015 facilitated the transition from separate DTaP and IPV/OPV administrations to a single combination product, reducing the injection burden on pediatric patients. The pertussis component is derived from the Yamaguchi strain, and the IPV component utilizes the Salk strains (Mahoney, MEF-1, and Saukett).
