Overview

Diphtherinum is a homeopathic nosode prepared from the sterile lysate of the diphtheritic membrane or the toxin produced by *Corynebacterium diphtheriae*. In homeopathic practice, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of diphtheria, post-diphtheritic paralysis, and chronic throat conditions characterized by dark red, swollen tonsils and offensive breath. It is also used in homeoprophylaxis. Like other homeopathic remedies, its preparation involves serial dilution and succussion (potentization), often to potencies where no original molecules of the toxin remain. Its mechanism of action is based on the homeopathic principle of "like cures like" (similia similibus curentur), intended to stimulate a self-healing response, though it lacks a recognized pharmacological mechanism or molecular target in conventional medicine.
