Overview

Diprobase is a range of topical emollient products used for the management of dry skin conditions, particularly atopic dermatitis (eczema). Developed by Bayer (following the acquisition of Schering-Plough's consumer health assets), Diprobase formulations include creams, ointments, and lotions designed to restore the skin's natural barrier. The products function as occlusive agents that form a protective layer on the skin surface, thereby reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and increasing stratum corneum hydration. Diprobase is frequently used as a first-line maintenance therapy to soothe itchy, flaking skin and reduce the frequency of disease flares, potentially decreasing the need for topical corticosteroids. Clinical studies, such as the COMET trial, have evaluated its acceptability and effectiveness in pediatric populations compared to other common emollients.
