Diquafosol tetrasodium + sodium hyaluronate is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic therapy used primarily for the treatment of dry eye disease, especially following refractive surgeries such as LASIK and SMILE. Diquafosol tetrasodium is a small molecule purinergic P2Y2 receptor agonist that stimulates secretion of water and mucins from conjunctival epithelial cells and goblet cells, thereby enhancing both the quantity and quality of tear fluid. Sodium hyaluronate is a viscoelastic polymer with strong water-retentive properties that helps lubricate the ocular surface, stabilize the tear film, and promote corneal epithelial healing. The combination provides synergistic benefits by improving subjective symptoms (such as dryness, discomfort) and objective signs (tear break-up time, Schirmer test scores) more effectively than either agent alone in post-surgical or general dry eye patients[1][3][4].
