Diquasol

Diquasol is an investigational ophthalmic formulation of denufosol tetrasodium, a selective P2Y2 purinergic receptor agonist developed to stimulate chloride and water secretion at the ocular surface and enhance mucin release from conjunctival goblet cells, thereby improving tear film quantity and quality in dry eye disease. Originally explored by Inspire Pharmaceuticals for cystic fibrosis as an inhaled agent, the compound was reformulated as a topical eye drop (Diquasol) to treat keratoconjunctivitis sicca by activating P2Y2 receptors on corneal and conjunctival epithelium, but clinical development in dry eye has been discontinued.
