Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Diractin is a topical pharmaceutical preparation containing ketoprofen (22.9 mg/g) formulated as a gel for dermal administration. It was developed for the symptomatic treatment of inflammation and pain associated with osteoarthritis. Ketoprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation and pain signaling[6][10]. The application for marketing authorization in Europe was withdrawn due to insufficient demonstration of efficacy at the proposed dose[6].
