Overview
Dirlotapide is a small molecule drug used for the management of obesity in dogs. It acts as a selective inhibitor of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP), which is pivotal for the absorption and distribution of dietary fat. By inhibiting intestinal MTP, dirlotapide reduces plasma cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations and decreases intestinal fat absorption. This leads to reduced food intake due to an appetite-suppressing effect mediated by local action in the gut after oral administration. The majority of weight loss results from this appetite suppression rather than systemic effects. Dirlotapide was developed specifically for veterinary use and is not intended for humans or other animal species[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
