Overview

DISC-PRO is a DNA-based prophylactic vaccine candidate developed by Xenova Ltd. for the prevention of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections. The vaccine utilizes the proprietary Disabled Infectious Single Cycle (DISC) Herpes Simplex Virus vector platform. This technology employs a virus that has been genetically inactivated by the deletion of a single gene essential for viral reproduction, allowing it to infect host cells and express viral proteins without producing new infectious progeny. This mechanism is designed to stimulate a comprehensive immunological response, including both helper and cytotoxic T cell responses. While Xenova retained the rights to the DISC-PRO prophylactic program, it licensed other DISC-HSV vector technologies to Oxxon Therapeutics. The development of the vaccine was discontinued following the acquisition of Oxxon Therapeutics by Oxford BioMedica in 2007.
